Rooftop Extension of a Residential Building, Prague – Vinohrady
Prefabricated Timber Construction in the Historic Centre of Prague
In the prestigious Prague district of Vinohrady, we carried out a technically demanding rooftop extension of a residential building using a lightweight prefabricated timber construction. ◾️The project presented several unique challenges typical of city-centre construction. ◾️Work was carried out at a height of 30 metres above an existing masonry building in a densely populated area with very limited access. Coordinating the Vinohrady project required careful negotiation of public-space occupancy for the crane and trucks in the busy historic streets. ◾️Thanks to the prefabricated timber construction, we were able to reduce assembly time to just days, significantly minimising noise and traffic disruption for local residents. The lightweight wooden structure also imposes minimal additional load on the existing load-bearing masonry, a crucial factor for extensions to historic buildings. ◾️The result is three modern duplex apartments in a timber build with open-plan layouts and large glazed areas that harmoniously complement the traditional Vinohrady architecture. ◾️Vesper Homes provided a complete turnkey solution – from design documentation and structural analysis, through the fabrication of prefabricated timber panels, to final assembly and handover of the apartments.
